Andorra

Political journey

A tiny Pyrenean state ruled since 1278 by two co-princes, the French head of state and the Bishop of Urgell. It stayed feudal in character until a 1993 constitution made it a parliamentary democracy with the co-princes as ceremonial heads of state. Andorra joined the United Nations that year and remains outside the European Union.
