Bolivia

Political journey

Independent since 1825, Bolivia has had dozens of coups and one of Latin America’s largest Indigenous populations. Evo Morales, its first Indigenous president from 2006 to 2019, nationalized gas and created a plurinational state before resigning amid a disputed election. In 2025 voters chose the centrist Rodrigo Paz, ending nearly two decades of dominance by Morales’s party.
