Bosnia and Herzegovina

Political journey

Part of the Ottoman Empire, then Austria-Hungary and Yugoslavia. Its 1992 independence vote led to a war among Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats that killed roughly 100,000 people. The 1995 Dayton Agreement ended it by creating a fragile state of two entities with a rotating three-member presidency, still overseen by an international High Representative.
