Ecuador

Political journey

Independent from Spain in 1822, Ecuador has had long periods of military and populist rule and frequent political crises. Rafael Correa’s left-wing government from 2007 to 2017 was followed by market-friendly presidents. Since 2023 Daniel Noboa has led a hard-line campaign against drug gangs, declaring an internal armed conflict.
