Estonia

Political journey

Independent in 1918 and again in 1991 after the Soviet Union annexed it in 1940 under the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. Estonia rebuilt itself as a liberal, digital democracy, joined NATO and the EU in 2004 and adopted the euro in 2011. It is one of the strongest supporters of Ukraine against Russia.
