Malaysia

Political journey

Independent from Britain in 1957 and formed as Malaysia in 1963, the country was governed for six decades by the Barisan Nasional coalition, with policies favoring the ethnic Malay majority. The 2018 election ended that run after the 1MDB scandal. After years of unstable governments, Anwar Ibrahim became prime minister in 2022.
