Mexico

Political journey

Independent from Spain in 1821 and reshaped by the 1910 revolution, Mexico was governed from 1929 to 2000 by a single party, the PRI. Democratization brought alternation in power, then the drug war from 2006 and the 2018 election of Andrés Manuel López Obrador. His successor Claudia Sheinbaum became its first woman president in 2024.
