Micronesia

Political journey

A group of Pacific islands administered by the United States as a UN trust territory from 1947, the Federated States of Micronesia became self-governing in free association with the United States in 1986. The compact provides aid and defence in return for US military access. It is a stable, consensus-based democracy of four states.
