Mongolia

Political journey

The center of Genghis Khan’s empire, Mongolia was ruled by China until 1911 and became a Soviet-aligned communist state in 1924. A peaceful democratic revolution in 1990 ended one-party rule. It has since been a multiparty democracy wedged between Russia and China, with an economy driven by mining.
