Niger

Political journey

Independent from France in 1960, Niger has seen many coups and has one of the world’s lowest development levels despite uranium. A 2023 coup overthrew elected President Mohamed Bazoum, and General Abdourahamane Tiani has since expelled French and US forces, left ECOWAS and joined Mali and Burkina Faso in an alliance.
