Nigeria

Political journey

Independent from Britain in 1960 and Africa’s most populous country, Nigeria endured a civil war over Biafra from 1967 to 1970 and decades of military rule until 1999. It has held elections since, while dealing with oil-fueled corruption, the Boko Haram insurgency and deep regional and religious divides. Bola Tinubu became president in 2023.
