Saint Kitts and Nevis

Political journey

The first English colony in the Caribbean, Saint Kitts and Nevis became independent in 1983 as a two-island federation, with Nevis keeping the right to secede. Once dependent on sugar, it now relies on tourism and a pioneering citizenship-by-investment program. Labour’s Terrance Drew has been prime minister since 2022.
