Saint Lucia

Political journey

Fought over repeatedly by Britain and France, Saint Lucia gained independence in 1979. A stable democracy alternating between the Saint Lucia Labour Party and the United Workers Party, it lives from tourism and bananas and is the home of two Nobel laureates, the economist Arthur Lewis and the poet Derek Walcott.
