Thailand

Political journey

Never colonized, Thailand turned from absolute to constitutional monarchy in 1932 and has since seen about a dozen military coups, the latest in 2014. A powerful monarchy and royalist establishment have clashed with popular movements, and courts have dissolved several popular parties. Anutin Charnvirakul became prime minister in 2025.
