Tuvalu

Political journey

A small Pacific atoll nation that separated from the Gilbert Islands and became independent from Britain in 1978. Among the countries most threatened by climate change, its highest point is only a few meters above sea level. In 2023 it signed the Falepili Union with Australia, which gives its citizens a path to migrate.
