Yemen

Political journey

Formed by the 1990 merger of North and South Yemen, Yemen slid into civil war after the Houthi movement seized the capital in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015, creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The internationally recognized government, led by the Presidential Leadership Council, controls only part of the country.
