Ashoka

Mauryan Emperor of India, c. 268 to 232 BCE

After the bloody conquest of Kalinga he turned to Buddhism, carved edicts promoting nonviolence, tolerance and welfare, and protected animals and forests.

Ashoka sits in the left-authoritarian part of the Caucus economy and liberty compass: leaning state-led and leaning authoritarian. The clearest positions are strongly peace-first on war and peace, strongly religious on religion and leaning authoritarian on liberty and authority. The profile is close to the middle on nation, technology and interventionism.
